Wolfe Brack

Visual Artist and Curator

About Brack

Wolfe Brack is a self–taught visual artist and curator, born and based in Kansas City, MO. His work deals with the minute, the unnoticed, and the humorousness that is often overlooked. He draws inspiration from architecture, natural forms, and human personality traits. Brack comes from a line of artists and briefly attended the Kansas City Art Institute in 2002. During this time, he learned fire-based performance and performed around the region. In 2011, Brack became Director of GLOW, a UV body painting and entertainment group. In 2013, Wolfe attended culinary school and worked briefly as a chef. These experiences and connections would lead him to his current career path.

Brack is now the Artistic Director for the InterUrban ArtHouse, an arts nonprofit in Overland Park, KS.  He oversees gallery exhibitions, programming, performances, and events in the space, as well as curating offsite corporate spaces on the ArtHouse’s behalf. In this role, he works toward equity in the arts through deliberate representation of artists from marginalized communities.

Brack has juried multiple art shows and competitions, been a contributing editor for a local arts publication, and sat on multiple public art selection committees. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Kansas City Toy and Miniature Museum.

Brack loves to create experiences. Whether through visual art that demands close inspection, immersive events and performances, or thought-provoking exhibition curation, he encourages people to engage with themselves and each other through the arts.

Statement From The Artist

I am a self taught artist born and raised in Kansas City, MO. My work deals mostly with the minute, the unnoticed, and the humorousness that is often overlooked in our daily lives.

I draw inspiration from natural forms, incorporating live organisms ranging from tiny plants to the human body, into my work. I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of organized chaos, the way random bits come together to produce a seemingly serene and orderly appearing whole.

As such, a lot of what I do is small scale, much of it starting at 2-3mm. I feel small works (or larger works made up of tiny or complex components) exude an intimate, inviting, and playful air that can entice the viewer to come closer, focus, and engage with the piece. It’s almost a form of seduction.

I present these works to you as visual playgrounds. Spaces created for your eyes and mind to wander, discover, and get lost in. Take your time with them. You’ll find something new with every viewing.
